Maria Karaivanova, Madrona Venture Group

Maria is an early-stage investor backing entrepreneurs looking to disrupt industries and make a difference. Her focus areas include: Cloud, Intelligent Applications, Security, ML/AI and Voice.

As an investment professional at Madrona Ventures, she has led all aspects of a deal from investment thesis creation and sourcing to exit and integration.

Prior to Madrona, she was the head of strategic partnerships and business development at Cloudflare. As one of the first 25 employees at Cloudflare, she focused on building the core business functions from enterprise sales to partnerships, from API product and engineering for integrations to training and support. She joined the executive team and created the business development organization building partnerships with Google, Microsoft, IBM and over 5,000 distribution partners. During her time at Cloudflare we scaled from 25 to 500+ employees and annual revenue from $0M to >$100M. They secured $182M of funding, got recognized as the Most Innovative Networking & Internet Technology Company for two-years running by the Wall Street Journal, and processed 10% of the world’s web requests through its network.

Before Cloudflare, she worked at Intel Capital investing in consumer internet and enterprise software. She also spent four years at Boeing in business development, business strategy and intellectual property management roles supporting military helicopters (Chinook, Apache) and fighter jets programs (F-18, F-15). She received an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BS in Finance from Saint Louis University.

Bob Sydow, Americas Cyber Leader, Ernst & Young

Bob is a principal at Ernst & Young, LLP and EY’s Americas Cybersecurity Leader. He has more than 30 years of experience in the cybersecurity sector and have helped build EY’s Cyber and Technology practices. Throughout his career, he has worked with Fortune 500 companies on all aspects of information security strategy transformation, cyber risk management, data protection and privacy, identity and access management, cyber threat management and cyber analytics. His current responsibilities include management of the EY’s cybersecurity practice, which provides assessment and security transformation services across all sectors in the Americas. EY’s cyber security practice currently spans across 150 countries with over 7,000 practitioners globally.

Rob Howell, Chief Privacy Officer, Fifth Third Bank

Rob Howell is the Chief Privacy Officer at Fifth Third Bank.  Based in Cincinnati, Rob has over 15 years of experience in privacy and information security.  His professional experience has ranged from retail, small businesses, healthcare, and finance.

In his current role at Fifth Third Bank, he leads the Privacy Office and oversees multiple enterprise-wide functions on how customer information is obtained, used, shared, and retained in accordance with state, federal, and international law.  Additionally, the Privacy Office is responsible for assessing risk; evaluating the Bancorp’s control environment; and the development and enforcement of policies, procedures, and guidelines that meet regulatory requirements with privacy regulations and data protection laws.

Rob is also a Certified Information Systems Security Professional and works with industry leaders in the advancement of privacy and information security.
